I wonder how much "Russian" is used as a shorthand for (or confused with) "Russian-speaking" (or even "sounds like Russian-speaking") and includes most Ukrainian/Belorussian/Moldovan etc nationals? I suspect the numbers still don't fully add up (and it's important to be precise, regardless) but it'd be interesting to look at the wider 'ex-Soviet' sphere.
Hi yes I did look at those numbers too. I would have missed my self-imposed deadline if I had included them as well. But the short answer is that up to 2021 there just weren’t than many Ukrainians or Belarussians - in the very low thousands. You might get to 50k if you include Georgians. But they aren’t exactly the same socioeconomic group as wealthy Russians.
